Question: Is it reasonable for a brand new car to completely run dry of oil after 8500 miles?
I bought a brand new ford focus and after 6 weeks the car started knocking. I immediately checked the oil which was dry. I put in 2 quartz and drove a short distance home then had it towed to the shop. When it got to the shop it was dry again. The check engine light came on after the knocking but the oil light never came on. Is it reasonable for the engine to run completely dry like that or is it likely that it was caused by a mechanical problem?
